Walk into any grocery store, pharmacy or health food store and the shelves are full of lotions, potions and supplements all touting wonderful health benefits that will change your life and make you forever young!
Unfortunately, the reality of the situation is that most of these products are really not going to do much for you.
As a chiropractor, one of the most frequent questions that I get asked is "what supplements if any should I be taking?" There are five supplements that are recommended you should take for lifelong health.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Fish oil is great to promote a healthy brain as we age, and promotes a healthy heart.
High Quality Multivitamin: For most people it is impossible to get all of the recommended vitamins and minerals each day so a good multivitamin is essential. Some symptoms of vitamin deficiency can be fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, depression and dental problems.
Vitamin D: Almost all of our cells in our body require vitamin D. Due to the increase use of sunscreens, we are starting to see an increase of vitamin D deficiency.
COQ10: This is a wonder supplement for everything from heart to skin.
Probiotic: A good probiotic can promote a healthy gut reducing symptoms of bloating, constipation, irritable bowel disease, ulcers and other infections.
Always check with your own doctor before taking any of these products, but hopefully this will clear up some confusion when it comes to taking supplements.
