What is Chiropractic?

The chiropractic profession was founded in the U.S. in 1895 and is now established in over 70 countries. According to the World Federation of Chiropractic, there are over 160,000 chiropractic physicians today, with more than 65,000 of them practicing in the United States. Although chiropractic as a profession is only a little over 100 years old, manipulation has been practiced in some form since the days of the bonesetters.

Chiropractic has a dual value in that it overlaps a wellness and a sickness paradigm. This is due to the dual function of the vertebral column: structural (the support and protection of the spinal cord) and mobility.

Chiropractic is a health care discipline, emphasizing the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. It focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system), and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.
